Time for a Mindset Spring Clean?

30th March 2024

Last week was Spring Equinox, the official start of Spring, and traditionally a time to cull from our lives the physical clutter we no longer have a use for. With its origins in cultural, religious and biological practice, Spring Cleaning typically refers to the act of cleaning our homes, however can be equally valid when considering our mindset; a chance to declutter the limiting beliefs and thoughts that no longer serve us.

Limiting beliefs are the unfounded truths we live by that prevent us from reaching our full potential. ‘Unfounded’ because the evidence to support them is lacking, but ‘truths’ we have had fed to us from childhood from well meaning family, friends, peers and teachers that we have come to accept without question. How often have you heard yourself say, ‘I am not good enough’, “I can’t do that because people will judge me’, or perhaps ‘I am too old/too young to…’.

There may have been times where heeding the narrative of such beliefs served a purpose, perhaps protecting us from hurt or failure at a time when this was necessary. However, if we are to grow and live a more fulfilled life, it is healthy to ask the question, ‘is this belief true?’, ‘does it still serve me?’. Imagine a Spring Clean that allowed you to let go of these beliefs and remove the barriers that were preventing you from reaching your potential. How would that feel? What would that look like? Where could you find yourself?

Tonight the clocks go forward and we lose an hour, so why not take the opportunity to consider what else you could lose right now.
